CELTIC WOMENFEST 2012 WELCOMES
OUR POETRY PATRONS

We will have a team of Spoken Word poets who will be entertaining us inbetween the Musical Acts throughout the 2 day CW12 Event 26th & 27th August ...

The Spoken Word Poetry team will be headed up by our
CW12 Poetry Patrons

Mab Jones
Resident Poet for The National Botanic Garden of Wales

Mab Jones is a Cardiff-born poet, comic, writer, and performer, under the umbrella title of "spoken word artist". Winner of the John Tripp Spoken Poetry Audience Award in 2008, and also in last year’s worldwide Liverpool Lennon Performance Poet competition (which drew over 600 applicants worldwide), she is a performer who places emphasis on entertainment and audience enjoyment. She has also been a finalist or semi-finalist in the UK SLAM! Championships, the BBC Radio 4 National Poetry Slam, the annual Funny Women awards, and was Literary Mention of the Year 2010 on the Welsh Icons website. She received an Academi bursary in 2007 and was Write Out Loud's Poem of the Month in May 2010

Rhian Edwards

Rhian won the 2011 John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry, and was also awarded the Audience Prize for her performance. She has recently completed her first collection, entitled Clueless Dogs, which is due for publication by Seren in May 2012

Susie Wild

"There was a definite buzz in the air as Susie Wild read her gritty and enchanting poems of heartbreak and hope." Ivy Alvarez 2010

Susie Wild is a writer, journalist and editor based in Cardiff. The Art of Contraception is her first book. It was long-listed for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize 2011 and won 'Fiction Book of the Year' in the Welsh Icons Awards 2010. Her Kindle Single novella 'Arrivals' was released globally through Parthian Books in May 2011

Simone Mansell Broome

''Simone Mansell Broome is that rare being - a gifted poet and a generous friend to many. In a cut-and thrust world where most look after themselves, Simone derives pleasure from seeing others succeed, and is a huge enabler. 'Ceridwen' is a testament to this. Her poetry shows great verve and audacity - so that even sombre material is given a fresh twist. She deserves every success that is so rightly coming her way''  Sally Speddin

Simone was born in Tenby, Pembrokeshire but moved away as a child, and was educated in Berkshire and Brighton, (where she read English in the School of English and American Studies at Sussex University). She also trained both as a teacher of EFL and of Speech and Drama. After A LONG TIME of being in business and a mother, she rediscovered 'creative writing' in December 2004. Simone returned to Wales at the end of 2006, where she lives on a farm in North Carmarthenshire, co-running a small centre for courses, holidays and workshops -

Look who else is performing at CW12

Look who else is performing at
Celtic Womenfest 2012!

Sarah Passmore

Swansea based Sarah Passmore is our youngest musician of the festival, whose self-penned songs belie her age. With a pathos and ability far beyond her years she has mesmerised audiences across Wales and will continue to do so. Her songs tell of an experience unique in one so young.

Zoe Clark
Zoe has a beautiful, soulful voice like an angel & is no stranger to The National Botanic Garden of Wales having come to The Great Glasshosue with Creative Director Cheryl Beer to perform as part of Carmen Jones of Trevethin; a rewrite of Carmen the Opera.

Celtic Womenfest 2012 gives Zoe the opportunity to sing solo and bring us a collection of her favourite songs.

As well as being a member of TSP Voices Community Choir
Zoe is also part of Serenity, a women's choir from Cardiff.
