SPECIAL GUEST: Abertillery Ladies Orpheus Choir

CW 12 is  pleased to welcome
ABERTILLERY LADIES ORPHEUS CHOIR who will be joining us on Monday 27th August at The National Botanic Garden of Wales.

The choir celebrated their Centenary last year and is said to be the longest running women's choir (without a break) in Wales.

Val Hatton from the choir said to our Creative Director,

If you think about life 100 years ago, when women were mostly at home managing big families, before the women's movement, it would really have taken something for these women to tell their famillies that they were going out every week to Choir.

Through 2 World Wars the women carried on meeting. During  WW2 the women made up packages for the soliders and still sang.

That is why we want to be part of Celtic Womenfest, to celebrate our togetherness and tell people about our history, as well as sing for them today and into the future.

A party of 54 will travel down from Abertillery to take part, singing a collection of Welsh and English Songs.

Creative Director, Cheryl Beer has worked with the choir previously,

I am thrilled that the Abertillery Ladies Orpheus are making such a huge effort to come and be part of the celebrations at The National Botanic Garden of Wales. Celtic Womenfest is a Platform for Women in Wales and it seems very fitting that a choir with such a long history in Wales should be joining us. All our performers are special, but Abertillery Ladies Orpheus Choir are  our very special guests indeed.

Inbetween out Musical Acts, where appropriate, whilst the next artist is getting ready to perform, CW12 will give the opportunity for 5 minute spoken word slots from our standby Poetry Crews .

Some of these people are listed elsewhere with other hats on; musicians, workshops facilitators etc but here are those who not mentioned elsewhere:-

Donna Howell & Jayne Purnell

Both Donna & Jayne were part of TSP Voices in Trevethin, South Wales with Cheryl Beer as Musical Director, performing spoken word and song at many venues across Wales.

Local poets will join us:

Rachel Aukland

Pauline Selston

Dawn Passmore

Others have askled to take part in the Poetry Crews but our line up is full.

However, if you come to the CW12 Festival and bring your poems, make yourself known to me, Cheryl Beer, Creative Director (I'll be on stage presenting) and I will put your name on a reserve list.

I can't promise anything but if the opportunity arises then I will work my way through the reserve list.

Can't be fairer than that folks!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL CW12 MUSICIANS

A MESSAGE TO ALL CW12 MUSICIANS

Hello Folks :)

HOW EXCITING THAT YOU ARE GETTING READY TO TAKE PART IN WHAT IS NOW, QUITE LIKELY, THE UK'S BIGGEST EVER ALL WOMEN FESTIVAL LINE UP!!

As you know, we now have over 50 acts booked to perform at CW12 this Summer which is FAB!

It has been quite a challenge making sure that everyone who applied in the Call for Acts period, has been able to take part ...
BUT we have had to make some compromises.

As is the usual case with Festivals and/OR Events with large line ups, you will have only a very quick line check before you perform. (no sound check)

Our Sound Engineer wants to make sure that the program runs smoothly and as stress free as possible, throughout the Event and has consequently asked for you to keep your gear set up to an absolute minimum for the change overs , and in the light of the increased line up has asked that people ...
DO NOT bring loopers or the like.

Backing Tracks on CD FORMAT are fine.

Please do NOT bring DAT's or DAT Machines as I wouldn't want you to be disappointed when you will not be able to use them!

I have already put this message originally on the CW12 Group Page on Facebook on July 3rd so that everyone has had plenty of time to adjust their short set in advance should they need to.

Thank you ...
for your understanding and co-operation.

See ya there!
Exciting times!
Chez
